DESCRIPTION

The Holy Trinity Monastery, also known as the Freedom Monastery, is an Orthodox monastery with nuns from the Calarasi county Romania. Located at a distance of only 4 kilometers north of Coslogeni village, Dichiseni commune, a village on DN 3B, which connects Calarasi (14 kilometers) to Fetesti (30 kilometers), not far from the shore of Borcea.

The name of the monastery - Freedom - is taken after the name of the former Libertatea village, a village made up of deportees, who were later moved to the neighboring villages: Coslogeni, Roseti, Modelu and Calarasi.

HISTORY

The church in the village of Libertatea was built between 1936 and 1942 by the work of the priest Nicolae Brebeanu and was sanctified on October 26, 1942, by the abbot Cosma Petrovici, the bishop of the Lower Danube. The church functions as a philologist of the Coslogeni parish until 1976 when, under order of the representatives of the communist regime, the inhabitants of the village were displaced and the church was left vacant, becoming a shelter for animals.

Things changed well after the fall of the communist regime in 1989. In 2000, the Bishop of Slobozia and Calarasi agreed to the establishment of the monastery of today's nuns, adding the patron saint of the Holy Trinity. The old church was repaired, being almost a ruin, and a group of nuns moved there. The works ended in 2003, the year in which the fresco paintings were executed and in which it was also reshaped. A year later, the cells were removed thanks to the goodwill of an engineer.

Today, Freedom Monastery has a community of just over ten nuns, their activities being coordinated by an abbess from Miclauseni Monastery. The place has no accommodation yet, but it is working on this. However, those who come to visit the monastery have at their disposal a warm meal, with all the love of the nuns. The lack of cells for accommodation does not stop the believers from visiting, on the contrary, on the occasion of the feast day, the yard becomes overcrowded..

The Holy Trinity Monastery, also known as the Freedom Monastery, has in its church several fragments of the relics of the 14,000 children killed by Herod in Jerusalem, the parts of the relics of the Holy Fathers, as well as fragments from the Focsa Saints of Odessa and Inochentie.

Trinity Monastery – Freedom - was founded in 2000. On July 1, 2000, the bishop blessed the establishment of a nunnery with the Holy Trinity. In April 2001, the nuns gathered here began repairing the old church, which was ruined at that time. The works were also strongly supported by Mother Marina Necsulescu.

In 2003, the church was painted in fresco, its sanctification being committed by PS Damaschin Coravu of Slobozia and Calarasi. In 2004, the building of the cells was completed, thanks to the engineer Petre Marian Milut. Nowadays, the monastic sanctuary continues to extend, through the mercy of the faithful who cross into it, and the construction of another building of cells, meant to accommodate the pilgrims, is currently underway.

VISITOR INFORMATION

The current abbess of the monastery, Mother Daria, is in charge of 13 nuns. She came here from Micaluseni Monastery, Iasi County, being from the Land of Baragn. The day of the monastery church is that of the old church, namely the Holy Emperors Constantine and Elena.

Freedom Monastery still has no accommodation facilities, but can offer a warm meal to all believers and pilgrims. Several Holy Moats are preserved in the church: Parts of the 14,000 Prisoners killed in Jerusalem by Herod's command, the Holy Fathers killed in Persia in 650, and the Saints Inochentie and Focsa in Odessa.

Dichiseni is a commune in Călărași County, Romania with 1863 inhabitants (2002 census). It  is located in Romania - some 72 mi (or 116 kilometers) East of Bucharest, the country's capital city. It is composed of four villages: Coslogeni, Dichiseni, Libertatea and Satnoeni.
